Under the commission on Proverty and managed by the Efficiency Unit of the Chief Secretary for Administration's Office, and with the allocation of $500 million from the Lotteries Fund, the Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Fund (SIE Fund) envisions being the catalyst for social innovation in Honng Kong through empowering visionary individuals and organisations to develop innovative, impactful and sustainable solutions to proverty and social exclusion.

The SIE fund has supported 83 innovative ventures through its intermediaries insofar. A roving exhibition truck themed "Social Innovation Flow" was launched to promoted the concept of social innovation, the achievements of the SIE Fund and its funded innovative ventures throughout the years to the wider public.

(i) Interactive Experience Zone -
Showcase of SIE Fund funded ventures in an interactive way, including AR Playbook, Beyond Vision Project and Eldpathy)
(ii) Exhibition Zone -
Introduce SIE Fund and its initiatives, as well as information about social innovation and social entrepreneurship. 10 short videos produced by youth teams sponsored by SIE Fund are on show. Each features an innovative venture funded by SIE Fund for enhancing public understanding of social innovation.

, will introduce to us a framework that he designed and created, which could guide a startup from the initial ideation stage to identifying the needs and value of the company’s product and developing the proper product design elements that can both enable sales and growth into their target market group.

Dr. Steven Lee has a M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Rutgers University and MBA degree from HKUST. He assumed a faculty position at the HKUST School of Engineering in 1993, and was recruited by a silicon-valley startup Analogictech to become the Hong Kong CEO in 1999. In 2001, Steven founded the CT group and sold his company 10 years later. He was invited to lead the Entrepreneurship Center at HKUST in 2012. Steven is also a sought after consultant, who earns a consultancy fees of more than 1 million HKD per year since 1993. Today, he continues to help startups and medium enterprises through his current associations with InnovationPath.

Witnessing the growth of entrepreneurial activities in our region, the Competition aims to provide a platform for HKUST and surrounding community members an integrative learning experience to create and evaluate new business and to prepare students to start their future career in entrepreneurship. Exhibition & Elevator Pitch
Come to our exhibition and choose the best exhibition on site! Shortlisted teams will have an exhibition in HKUST campus. The Exhibition is a half-day event and is open to HKUST community, public, venture capitalists, investors and angels to give score for the best exhibition on site. The total scoring of this part will contribute 20% of Round 2 Assessment. The Elevator Pitch will take place after the exhibition. Each Team will make a 90-second elevator pitch in front of a Judging Panel.

HKUST Big Data Institute (BDI) is excited to partner with NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute and launch a half-day practical Deep Learning Fundamentals Workshop. The workshop is exclusively for verifiable academic students, staff, and researchers.

Deep learning is a hot topic in both academia and industry since it has recently dramatically improved the state-of-the-art research areas such as speech recognition, computer vision, prediction of drug molecule activities, and many other machine learning tasks. The basic idea in deep learning is to automatically learn to represent data in multiple layers of increasing abstraction, thus helping to discover intricate structure in large datasets.

In this half-day Deep Learning Fundamentals Workshop, you will learn to:
- Understand general terms and background of deep learning
- Leverage deep neural networks (DNN) within the deep learning wprkflow to solve a real-world image classification problem using DIGITS

About the Speakers
Ms. Zoe Gao is the manager of Blue Bay incubator, HKUST R and D (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. She helped to establish a stage by stage entrepreneurship system in Shenzhen, aiming to provide a full range of entrepreneurship services to assist HKUST members in starting business in Shenzhen. She also has a rich network resources and helped many startups make connections with local industry.

Mr. Eric Ren has professional experience in government entrepreneurship policy research and successfully helped many startup companies get different types of government supports like funding, grant, certifications and so forth.

Mr. Owen Yip is the co-founder of Dreamover. He has many years of programming development experience. He is currently focusing on IOT, APP development, ERP system, etc. He graduated from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and is currently studying a master degree in computer science in The University of Hong Kong. Owen has a deep understanding of big data applications, cloud technology applications, mobile application architectures and started his own business ‘Dreamover’ in Blue Bay Incubator in 2017.

Ms. Jennifer Zhang is the founder of Albatross Venture, She has many years of experience with early-stage investment, and she currently focuses on Fintech, AI, Enterprise Services etc. Prior to founding Albatross Venture, Jennifer was the Investment Director at Vertex Ventures of Temasek in Singapore, and she invested 91.com of B rounds which has been acquired by Baidu for 1.9 billion US dollars. As an angel investor, she has invested several well-known companies such as Sleepace, an intelligent hardware enterprise that can improve people's sleep; Lando, China's leading high-end biomedical materials companies. Jennifer holds a Master of Finance from PBC School of Finance (PBCSF), Tsinghua University.

Hackathon@HKUST (hackUST) is 24-hr competition in which talents (including students and alumni) from different backgrounds (including software engineers, hardware engineers, business students, designers, and among others) can mingle together, transform creative ideas to real software/hardware prototypes, develop sound business plans, and present ideas with a concrete prototype to a judging panel consisting of faculty members, entrepreneurs, industry experts, representatives from non-government organizations, and others.
